Rev. Bro. Henry Dissanayake is the second child in the family of four children. He joined St. Benedict’s College in Grade 9 and thereafter followed his Advance Level studies at De Mazenod College, Kandana.
God called him to serve in his vineyard in 1971 when he entered St. Joseph’s Juniorate, Mutwal. For his formation, he was sent to the Novitiate in Mangalagiriin Tamil Nadu, India, in 1974. Strengthened by God’s grace, and spiritual formation, he took his first vows in 1975. Bro. Henry returned back to the scholasticate in Mutwal during 1975 and took his final vows in 1984.
Bro. Henry, entered the University of Peradeniya to further his academic studies and obtained his B.Sc. (Honours) Degree in 1988. Subsequently, he was sent to De La Salle University, Manila for his spiritual studies where he obtained his Masters Degree in spiritual formation.
In 1998, he obtained his postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Open University of Sri Lanka. He also obtained his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Colombo.
Bro. Henry, followed his basic religious studies in Mutwal during the period 1975 to 1976. He was sent to Rome to follow the International session of Lasallian studies during 1988 to 1989.
He continued his Lasallian formation studies in Thailand and Philippines during the period 1992 to 1994.
Serving on the Benedictine staff in 1978, he was a class teacher and the assistant scout master. During the period 1980 to 1984, he served at De Mazenod College as a class teacher, a sectional head and also looking after the Hostel affairs.
From 1990 to 1994, he was on the staff at La Salle Inter District novitiate, Hanwella. During the period 1995 to 1999, he served as a sectional head at St. Sabastian’s College, Moratuwa and reached the topmost rung in administration – The Principal.
He was appointed Bro. Provincial Visitor of the De La Salle Congregation of Sri Lanka in year 2000 to offer his leadership and guidance to the La Sallian Brothers. He held this position till 2008. He also served at the Diyagala Boys’ Town, Ragama as a Trustee prior to assuming duties as the 39th Director of St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena on 4th January 2016.
