Subject: BENS into Finals beating Wesley by 59 Runs
St. Benedict’s College trounced Wesley College by 59 runs in the schools under 19 limited over cricket tournament semifinal match at the Kettarama International Cricket stadium, today. (11th April)
Put in to bat first, St Benedict’s notched up an imposing 232 for 7 in 50 overs, thanks to a splendid opening stand of 137 in 33 overs between Janindu Karunatilleke 61 and Thilina Silva 56.
Wesley in reply too had a solid start and was sitting pretty at one stage on 144 for 3 in 36 overs. But Bens came back hard bowling a very tight line, supported by some brilliant fielding which accounted for two run-outs and excellent catching in the deep, restricted the scoring and Wesley succumbed to be all-out for 173, losing their last seven wickets for a mere 29 runs.
“The Saints” St. Benedict’s College and St. Peter’s College will now battle it out for the championship title tomorrow, 12th April at Moors Grounds, Braybrooke Place, Colombo 2, commencing 10.00 a.m.
Bens, this is a great opportunity for us all to rally together under the green and white flag and support our team to victory and clinch the plum of school cricket.
We wish the team good luck and god’s blessings in the finals!
